Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center’s Maternal Health Observership Provides Educational Opportunities for Rising Second-Year Med Students
The Maternal Health Observership scholars dedicated their summer to developing a deeper understanding of maternal health, rural pediatric care, and how health disparities in these areas affect families living within Georgia.
Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center Trains 1,400 Rural Citizens in Community Resiliency
Over the course of five months, 1,400 rural citizens were trained in the Community Resiliency Model (CRM). Participants in this free, skills-based wellness program included middle and high school students, school teachers and counselors, clergy, health care providers, and Mercer School of Medicine students.
GRHIC Partners with Chattooga County Organizations in Housing Assessment and Community Health Survey
The Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center teamed up with Chattooga Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH), Helping Hands Ending Hunger, and Chattooga Chamber of Commerce to complete a housing needs assessment and windshield survey of housing conditions, such as blight, disrepair, and abandoned properties, along with a community health needs assessment.
Center Hosts Second-Annual Maternal Health Symposium
The 2023 Maternal Health Symposium, the Life Cycle of Maternal Health, focused on how optimum health during all aspects of life’s stages is crucial to positive outcomes: from birth to adolescence, teen years to adulthood, pregnant mothers to senior adults. Speakers presented topics on children and adolescents, preconception, pregnancy and postpartum, and menopause.
Rural Community Outreach Exposes Students to Health Care Professions
Outreach to rural Georgia communities is a vital part of the mission of both the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center (GRHIC) and Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM).
